Man boobs, also known as gynaecomastia, is a male concern where the male breasts become enlarged. This characteristic is not often considered a masculine trait, and affects the accepted contours of the male physique. Man boobs \/ enlarged male breasts may also give the impression that the affected man has excess body fat, leading to lack of confidence and a negative body image – particularly in intimate situations, when wearing fitted clothing, swimming or when sunbathing on holiday.<\/p>\n
Gynaecomastia can be caused by a variety of factors. Hormonal imbalances, particularly an increase in oestrogen relative to testosterone, can stimulate breast tissue growth in males. This imbalance may arise during puberty, due to natural hormonal fluctuations, or in older age, as testosterone levels decline. Certain medications, including some antidepressants, antihypertensives, and anabolic steroids, can also disrupt hormone levels and contribute to enlarged male breasts. Obesity is another significant factor, as excess fat can increase oestrogen production and lead to an overgrowth of breast tissue. Additionally, underlying medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney failure, or thyroid disorders may play a role in gynecomastia development. Treatment options vary depending on the underlying cause and severity of the condition.<\/p>\n
