Nipple Concerns

Nipple concerns, including: larger nipples, variations in colour, overly protruding nipples, puffy nipples, differences in symmetry (uneven nipple placement and size) and inverted nipples, can impact both men and women. Concerns with the appearance of the nipples may influence the overall aesthetic of breasts. This can lead to concerns surrounding body image, with self-consciousness and lack of confidence having the potential to impact intimate relationships.

Inverted nipples are more common for women, however, men can also experience retracted nipples. With women, this concern is often genetic, and occurs when milk ducts pull inward instead of protruding. When it affects men, it is usually because the nipple base remains small. Men may also experience conditions like gynecomastia, which can lead to enlarged or puffy nipples due to hormonal imbalances. Hormonal fluctuations during puberty, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can cause temporary changes, such as nipple enlargement or darkening. In cases of uneven nipple size or placement, anatomical variations may be genetic and result from developmental factors. Health conditions, such as infections or dermatological issues can cause nipple changes. Breast surgeries or trauma may also impact their appearance.

Persistent changes in the size and shape of the nipples are common occurrences, and whilst many concerns are benign, they will warrant medical assessment to rule out underlying issues. Mr Waseem Bhat can address these concerns, as well as any aesthetic issues a patient has with the size, shape and protrusion of the nipples. Nipple correction surgery is tailored to the needs of each individual, using the most appropriate surgical techniques to create natural looking nipples that are proportionate to the size and shape of the breasts. Nipple surgery is often performed as part of breast surgery, working to reshape, resize or reposition the nipples.
