Nipple Correction

Nipple correction surgery addresses concerns related to the appearance or functionality of the nipples and / or areola, and can improve conditions including: large nipples, inverted nipples, an irregularly shaped areola, large areola, overly protruding nipples and asymmetry. It’s chosen by individuals who are unhappy with the appearance and functionality of the nipples, often experiencing self-consciousness and a negative body image.

The surgical process involves various techniques based on the specific concern.

For inverted nipples, Mr Bhat releases the tethering tissue causing inversion, allowing the nipple to protrude naturally. Nipple / areola reduction or reshaping involves resizing the nipple / areola by excising excess tissues to achieve the desired size and proportions. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia, and incisions are made inconspicuously around the nipple area.

Post-surgery, you may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising, managed with prescribed pain medication. A protective dressing or nipple shield may be used initially to protect the area. When addressing inverted nipples a splint may be required to help the nipple maintain its position while healing, as well as to potentially prevent the condition from recurring. Avoiding pressure or friction on the nipples and wearing loose clothing aids in recovery. Regular follow-ups ensure proper healing and address any concerns.

Nipple correction surgery is chosen to enhance the appearance and function of the nipples, improving self-confidence and comfort. While scarring is inevitable, proper incision care minimises visible scarring over time. Adhering to postoperative instructions, including proper wound care and follow-up visits (made at 1 week, 6 weeks and 3 months after surgery), maximises results and ensures a smooth recovery.

Frequently asked questions

Mr Bhat will carry out a thorough consultation prior to surgery, This will include an examination of the nipples and an assessment of your general health to determine your suitability for surgery. Before going ahead with surgery it’s important to realistic expectations, and Mr Bhat will explain the results you can expect.

Nipple correction surgery is considered a safe procedure, and should always be carried out by a board certified surgeon in accredited facilities. In many cases this surgery is a benefit to an individual’s overall well-being.

The nipples are a sensitive part of the body, and the procedure can therefore cause some discomfort. Mr Bhat will decide during the consultation which form of anaesthesia is most suitable, based on your individual circumstances.

You can wash as soon as 1 or 2 days after surgery, however, a powerful jet and hot water may disturb the wounds and delay healing. Be careful no to rub the treated area and avoid using harsh / perfumed soaps.

The final result may have developed within 6 weeks of surgery. This will allow for the wounds to heal sufficiently, and for any swelling and bruising to subside. Typically, the nipples and areola will have the desired shape, size and protrusion. Their appearance will be natural looking, more symmetrical and in proportion with the size and shape of the breasts.
