Thigh Fat
Thigh fat sees the accumulation of excess fat to the upper part of the legs. This concern can be experienced by anyone, however, women tend to be affected more significantly than men. Thigh fat can cause the legs to look larger than desired, often impacting the smooth contours of the body. This can lead to a degree of self-consciousness for the affected person, as they feel their body looks ‘out-of-shape’, and / or disproportionate.
Thigh fat accumulation can be attributed to a combination of genetic, hormonal, and lifestyle factors. Genetic predisposition plays a role, as individuals may inherit a tendency to store fat in specific areas, including the thighs. Hormonal changes, particularly during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause, can influence fat distribution, with oestrogen affecting fat storage in the lower body.
Caloric imbalance, resulting from excessive calorie intake and insufficient physical activity, contributes to overall body fat accumulation, including the thighs. Sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary choices, and lack of exercise can lead to weight gain in this area. However, some people find that thigh fat can be stubborn, and resists a healthy diet and exercise. Additionally, stress and inadequate sleep may disrupt hormonal balance and contribute to fat storage in the thigh region.
Addressing these factors through a balanced diet, regular exercise, and lifestyle modifications can help manage it. However, when these efforts don’t have the desired effect, body contouring treatments can provide a solution. Mr Waseem Bhat is an experienced consultant plastic surgeon who performs surgical procedures, such as a thigh lift and liposuction to help remove stubborn fat. A thigh can also address excess skin if this is also a concern. These procedures produce slimmer, leaner looking thighs, which can last long term through the upkeep of a healthy and active lifestyle. However, they may not be recommended as the first step to losing significant amounts of weight.
