Abdominoplasty / Mini Abdominoplasty / Fleur de Lis Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is used to address concerns with excess skin, stubborn fat, and weakened abdominal muscles. Significant weight loss, pregnancy, or ageing can lead to stretched skin and muscle laxity, causing a protruding abdomen that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. This surgical procedure aims to flatten the stomach, remove excess skin and fat, and tighten abdominal muscles, providing a more contoured and toned appearance.

Mr Waseem Bhat chooses the surgical technique that will best achieve your desired results. Traditional abdominoplasty involves a horizontal incision between the hips, allowing for extensive contouring of the abdominal area. Excess skin and fat are removed, and weakened abdominal muscles are tightened for a flatter abdomen. Mini abdominoplasty is suited for those with less excess skin and muscle laxity below the belly button. It involves a smaller incision and focuses on addressing the lower abdomen. Fleur de lis abdominoplasty incorporates a vertical incision in addition to the horizontal one, ideal for individuals who’ve experienced significant weight loss. This technique targets excess skin both horizontally and vertically, suitable for those requiring substantial tissue removal and contouring, particularly in the midsection. Each approach offers tailored solutions based on your specific anatomical needs.

Following surgery, aftercare is crucial for optimal healing. You’ll typically wear a compression garment to minimise swelling and support the abdomen. Pain medication helps manage discomfort, while antibiotics prevent infection. Rest and limited activity are advised initially, with gradual reintroduction of light exercise as guided by Mr Bhat. Maintaining a healthy diet aids recovery. Avoiding strenuous activities and heavy lifting is essential during the early stages. Regular follow-ups with Mr Bhat ensure proper healing and address any concerns. Adhering to post-operative instructions promotes a smoother recovery and enhances the long-term results of the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

In general, abdominoplasty will help people achieve a flatter, more toned looking stomach. Individual needs are factored in when deciding which technique is most suitable, and a thorough assessment during the consultation will identify whether you’ll need a traditional abdominoplasty, a mini tummy tuck, or a fleur de lis abdominoplasty.

The safety of abdominoplasty stems from meticulous preoperative assessments, qualified surgeons (Mr Bhat) , modern anaesthesia techniques, and stringent postoperative care. All these factors help to reduce risks and ensure patient well-being.

Abdominoplasty requires general anaesthesia to ensure patient comfort and immobility during the extensive procedure. It also allows Mr Bhat to perform intricate tissue manipulation and minimise discomfort, ensuring a controlled, safe environment.

It may be possible for you to take a gentle shower (using warm water and a gentle soap) around 24 / 48 hours after surgery. Mr Bhat recommends waiting for approximately 2 weeks (or until advised) before having a bath or going swimming.

Abdominoplasty aims for a flatter abdomen, reduced excess skin and tightened muscles. The removal of the excess tissue is noted immediately. However full results may take several months to develop as swelling subsides, typically showing significant improvement within 3-6 months post-surgery.
