Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure designed to address sagging or excess skin on the upper arms. These concerns are often caused by ageing, weight loss, or genetics and can be experienced by both men and women. This cosmetic surgery aims to redefine the arm’s contour, tightening and reshaping the underlying tissues for a more toned and youthful appearance.

The procedure involves making incisions along the inner or back portion of the upper arm, strategically placed to minimise visible scarring. Depending on the extent of correction needed, Mr Bhat may perform liposuction to remove excess fat deposits. He will then trim and tighten the remaining skin, removing any surplus tissue before closing the incisions. In most cases brachioplasty is performed on both of the upper arms, however, the techniques used will be tailored to meet the needs of each arm independently.

In many cases brachioplasty is carried out alongside other surgical body contouring procedures, such as: thigh lift, abdominoplasty and buttock lift to improve the appearance and contouring of the entire body.

All side effects and risks will be discussed at the consultation prior to surgery. Recovery times vary, but it’s likely that you’ll be able to resume light activities within a couple weeks and return to work within 14-21 days. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks to allow for proper healing and to minimise the risk of complications. Post-operative compression sleeves may also need to be worn for up to 6 weeks after surgery. These will help to reduce swelling and support the arms as they heal.

Frequently asked questions

While many people request brachioplasty as ageing skin on the arms begins to sag, this procedure is also suitable for those who have lost a significant amount of weight and have loose skin as a result. A thorough pre-surgery consultation with Mr Bhat will assess your suitability for surgery.

If Mr Bhat considers you to be a good candidate for surgery, you can feel confident that the procedure is also safe for you to undergo. Mr Bhat’s safety protocols are stringent and the team do all they can to ensure your well-being.

At the consultation we will decide whether to use a local or a general anaesthetic which will depend on the extent of surgery. Whether you’ll be asleep or fully awake during the procedure, you won’t feel any pain. Post-surgical discomfort is to be expected and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

Although you can wash after surgery, you will need to keep the healing wounds dry for around 1 week. Therefore we recommend you do not have bathe or go swimming until you have attended your first follow-up appointment (1 week). Here, Mr Bhat will examine the treated area and advise your next steps.

As swelling subsides and incisions heal, a more contoured and toned appearance in the arms will develop. While scars may initially appear noticeable, they typically fade over time, leaving behind improved arm contours and boosted self-confidence.
