Liposuction / Lipoabdominoplasty

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that removes stubborn fat deposits to reshape specific areas of the body. People seek liposuction to address localised fat pockets in various areas of the body that are unresponsive to diet or exercise, achieving a more sculpted appearance. In lipoabdominoplasty, liposuction is often combined with a tummy tuck to further contour the abdomen by removing excess fat. It helps to enhance the overall outcome by refining the abdominal contour and achieving more comprehensive body shaping.

During liposuction, Mr Waseem Bhat makes small incisions near the targeted area and inserts a thin tube (cannula) connected to a vacuum device. The cannula breaks up and suctions out excess fat cells, sculpting the body’s contours. Common areas treated with liposuction include: upper arms, under the chin, chest / breast, stomach, thighs, knees and buttocks. In combination with a tummy tuck, liposuction allows Mr Bhat to precisely contour the waistline, hips, and flanks, optimising the results of the tummy tuck by creating a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing silhouette. This combined approach addresses both excess skin and fat, providing a comprehensive solution for individuals seeking improved abdominal contouring.

Following liposuction or lipoabdominoplasty, wearing compression garments is vital to reduce swelling and support the treated area. Pain medication manages discomfort, while antibiotics prevent infection. Rest and limited activity are advised initially, gradually incorporating light exercise as guided by Mr Bhat and his team. A healthy diet aids recovery, while avoiding strenuous activities and heavy lifting is crucial in the early stages. Follow-up appointments with Mr Bhat are generally arranged at 1 week, 6 weeks and 3 months after surgery. They are essential for ensuring proper healing and address any concerns, allowing for a smoother recovery and maximising the procedure’s long-term results.

Frequently asked questions

Mr Bhat will discuss your reasons for surgery at a thorough consultation, where he will also examine the areas you wish to be treated. This will determine your suitability for the procedure, which is aimed at reducing areas of stubborn fat for improved body contouring.

Liposuction and lipoabdominoplasty are generally safe when performed by an experienced surgeon (such as Mr Bhat) in accredited facilities. Risks are minimised through proper patient assessment and postoperative care.

Liposuction / lipoabdominoplasty is generally performed under general anaesthetic to provide maximum comfort. In some liposuction cases where the lower body is treated, an epidural anaesthetic can be used. Post-surgery discomfort is managed with prescribed pain relief.

It will be Ok for you to shower around 3 days after the procedure, however, we advise that you do not have a bath. You must use warm water and a gentle soap, patting the area dry with a soft towel. At your follow-up appointments Mr Bhat will recommend when swimming or having a bath is allowed.

Expected results include improved body contours, reduced fat deposits, and a more sculpted appearance. Significant improvement is noticeable within a few weeks, with full outcomes generally seen after several months.
