Split Earlobe Correction
Split earlobe correction, often termed earlobe repair surgery, is a procedure aimed at fixing a tear or split in the earlobe. This kind of damage can occur due to trauma, wearing heavy earrings, or stretching earlobes for fashion purposes (insertion of ear gauges). Earlobe repair surgery is a common cosmetic procedure sought to restore the natural shape and appearance of the earlobes.
The surgical process involves cleaning the affected area and removing any scar tissue or irregular edges from the split. Mr Bhat then carefully stitches the edges of the tear back together, using techniques that ensure proper alignment and minimal scarring. In cases where the piercing hole has stretched significantly, excess tissue might be removed to reshape the earlobe. Split earlobe correction can be performed on one or both of the earlobes depending on your needs.
Post-surgery, you will be advised to keep the surgical site clean and follow Mr Bhat’s instructions for aftercare. This usually involves applying antibiotic ointment to the area and keeping it protected with a dressing for a specified period. You will be advised to avoid wearing earrings or putting pressure on the area while it heals.
Recovery times are relatively quick, and you’re likely to be able to resume daily activities within a few days. However, it may take several weeks for the earlobe to fully heal and for any swelling or bruising to subside. Regular follow-up appointments allow Mr Bhat to monitor the healing progress and remove any stitches if necessary. These are typically arranged at 1 week and 3 weeks after surgery, with any further appointments made depending on the progress of your healing.

Frequently asked questions
Am I suitable for split earlobe correction?
With piercings and jewellery for the ears being popular fashion and style choices, damage to the earlobes is common. When tears or splits occur, whether through injury or from heavy adornments, a repair procedure can restore the earlobes’ original appearance.
Is split earlobe safe?
Mr Bhat is a highly trained and experienced surgeon who is fully supported by a caring and competent team. They follow all safety protocols as patient well-being is paramount.
Will it hurt?
This type of surgical procedure may be less invasive than some other procedures, but there will be a degree of discomfort felt. This is why we’ll administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you won’t feel a thing. Any post-surgical discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
How soon after surgery can I wash?
You may be able to shower around 48 hours after surgery. However, you should ensure the ears do not get excessively wet, and always pat the area dry with a soft towel.
What results can I expect?
As the earlobe heals, you can usually expect minimal scarring and a restored earlobe that resembles its natural shape, allowing for the potential re-piercing of ears once the healing process is complete.

What our patients say...
I plucked up courage to have upper blepharaplasty with Waseem Bhat, I had two zoom consultations before going ahead with surgery.
I was very nervous but Waseem and Nicki made me feel completely at ease during surgery. Everything was explained to me and I felt in safe hands. I’ve just returned to the clinic for my sutures removing and even though it’s early days I can already see such an improvement I’m extremely pleased. It boosts your confidence and makes you feel so much happier with yourself.
