Eye Bags
Eye Bags affect the area underneath the lower lid. This concern appears as puffiness or swelling beneath the eyes which creates a distinct bulging or sagging appearance. They are often accompanied by dark circles, tear troughs (hollow areas under the eyes) and droopy upper eyelids, contributing to a tired or aged look. The development of eye bags can noticeably impact facial aesthetics, often making an individual appear fatigued or older than their actual age.
Eye bags can be caused by a combination of factors. These are primarily influenced by the ageing process, becoming more prominent over time. As we age, the muscles and tissues supporting the eyes weaken. This allows fatty deposits to fall and push forward, creating the characteristic puffiness. Genetics also play a crucial role, with a hereditary predisposition leading to a higher likelihood of developing this concern. Lifestyle choices, such as: smoking, lack of sleep, and excessive sun exposure contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, exacerbating the appearance of under-eye bags. Fluid retention, allergies, and hormonal changes can also play a role in their formation. The complex interplay of these factors results in the protrusion of fat and swelling beneath the eyes.
Surgical interventions like blepharoplasty are often sought to address these cosmetic concerns and restore a more youthful eye contour. This approach provides a long term solution to the appearance of eye bags, often working to rejuvenate the eye area for several years. Mr Waseem Bhat performs lower blepharoplasty which removes excess skin and tissues in the lower lid region, reducing puffiness, sagging skin and other associated concerns. This procedure can be combined with addressing the puffiness caused by underlying fat. Whilst results can last for some years, eye bags may return due to the continuing effects of ageing skin.
