Face Lift

A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reducing visible signs of ageing in the face. It addresses sagging skin, deep creases, and excess fat deposits, providing a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

During a facelift procedure, Mr Waseem Bhat typically makes incisions along the hairline or around the ears, allowing him to access underlying tissues. He will then lift and reposition the skin, tightening the underlying muscles and tissues as needed. Excess skin is trimmed away before the incisions are closed. In some cases, liposuction may be performed to remove fat deposits and further enhance facial contours.

There are variations in facelift techniques, including traditional, limited incision, and neck lift procedures. The choice depends on your specific concerns and the extent of correction required.

Mr Bhat ensures all side effects and risks are discussed at consultation, and may include swelling and bruising. Recovery times vary, but most individuals can return to work and resume light activities within 2 weeks. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks to facilitate proper healing. You may be advised to keep your head elevated, protect your incisions from excessive sun exposure, and adhere to a skincare routine recommended by Mr Bhat and his team. Regular follow-up appointments allow Mr Bhat to monitor progress and ensure a smooth recovery. These are typically arranged at 1 week, 6 weeks, 3 months after surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Men and women seeking a face lift are often concerned with an ageing appearance. Concerns such as: lines and wrinkles, sagging skin and jowls can be noticeably reduced with the results lasting for several years.

Mr Bhat is an experienced consultant plastic surgeon. He has performed many procedures of this nature, and uses modern techniques that are tailored to meet the needs of each patient. A thorough consultation prior to surgery determines candidate suitability, and the procedure will only be carried out if it doesn’t compromise the patient’s well-being.

A surgical procedure, such as a face lift, will be painful without the use of anaesthetic. Your needs will be considered when deciding which form of anaesthesia is the most suitable. We typically use a general anaesthetic or a local anaesthetic with sedation.

It may be safe to wash your face and hair 48 hours after surgery. You may be advised to use baby shampoo (or a product that’s equally as gentle), being careful to avoid excessive rubbing motions that may disturb any healing wounds and sutures.

Over time, as swelling subsides and incisions heal, you can appreciate the gradual development of a more youthful and refreshed facial appearance. The skin will become smoother, firmer and tighter, leading to softer looking wrinkles and a lifted appearance.
