Thigh Lift

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure aimed at reshaping and tightening the thighs, addressing loose skin, excess fat, and sagging tissues. These concerns are often caused by ageing, weight fluctuations or genetics, and can cause a degree of self-consciousness. A thigh lift  aims to improve thigh contours and create a more toned appearance.

The procedure involves making incisions in areas that allow for maximum skin tightening while minimising visible scarring. Depending on the specific concerns, Mr Bhat may perform an inner thigh lift, outer thigh lift, or a combination of both. Incisions are made in the groin, and may extend down the inner or outer thigh, depending on the extent of surgery required. Excess skin and fat are then removed, and underlying tissues are tightened and repositioned to achieve a smoother and firmer thigh contour.

If the thigh lift is requested following bariatric surgery, or significant weight loss, other procedures may also be beneficial for improving overall body contouring. It’s common for a thigh lift to be carried out alongside abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), brachioplasty (arm lift) and a buttock lift.

Recovery times vary, but we expect you to be able to resume light activities within a few days, with a view to return to work within 2-3 weeks. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks to facilitate proper healing and minimise potential complications. Regular follow-up appointments with Mr Bhat are essential to monitor progress, ensure optimal healing, and address any concerns. These are typically arranged at 1 week, 6 weeks and 3 months after surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Mr Waseem Bhat asks all patients to attend a thorough consultation prior to surgery. This session talks through your motivations for surgery and assesses the condition of your thighs before making a decision regarding your suitability. In most cases, those with loose skin on their thighs, and who are in relatively good health are considered as good candidates.

Thigh lift procedures are considered safe, and often produce pleasing results that last long term. Mr Bhat and his team follow a range of safety protocols, and complications are less likely if you adhere to the suggested aftercare instructions.

A general anaesthetic is more suitable when carrying out a thigh lift. This is because the procedure requires extensive tissue manipulation and multiple incisions, therefore needing a deeper level of sedation.

You may be able to take a light shower around 48 hours after surgery. Mr Bhat often recommends avoiding the use of a powerful jet and harsh / perfumed products. You will also need to pat the area dry dry using a soft towel. Bathing or immersing the legs in water will need to be avoided for around 6 weeks.

As swelling subsides and incisions heal, patients can appreciate improved thigh contours and a more proportionate lower body silhouette, boosting their self-confidence and satisfaction with their appearance.
