Gynaecomastia Reduction
Gynecomastia reduction, also known as male breast reduction surgery, addresses enlarged or overdeveloped breasts in men. This condition is often caused by hormonal imbalances, genetics, certain medications, or weight fluctuations. The procedure aims to reduce excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a more masculine chest contour.
The surgical process begins with an assessment of the underlying causes and extent of gynecomastia. Mr Bhat may employ liposuction to remove excess fat and glandular tissue or excision techniques to trim away excess skin and tissue. Often, a combination of both methods is used to achieve optimal results. Incisions are strategically placed around the areola or in inconspicuous areas to minimise visible scarring.
Post-surgery, it’s common to experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising, managed with prescribed pain medication. Wearing a compression garment helps reduce swelling and supports the treated area. Rest and avoiding strenuous activities are advised initially, with gradual return to normal routines as guided by Mr Bhat and his team. Regular follow-ups made at 1 week, 6 weeks and 3 months ensure proper healing and address any concerns.
Gynecomastia reduction surgery can significantly improve self-confidence and body image for men affected by enlarged breasts. While some scarring is inevitable, proper incision placement and care minimise visible scarring over time. Adhering to postoperative instructions, including proper wound care and follow-up visits, maximises results and ensures a smooth recovery.

Frequently asked questions
Am I suitable for gynaecomastia reduction?
This is a procedure that specifically addresses the male form. It’s important for Mr Bhat to explore the causes of gynaecomastia (enlarged male breasts) as this can often determine the right course of treatment. For instance, if weight gain is the cause, taking steps to lose excess fat stores may correct the condition without the need for surgery.
Is gynaecomastia reduction safe?
Mr Bhat’s experience and his precise surgical techniques make this surgery safe to undergo, if you’re deemed a suitable candidate.
Will it hurt?
Mr Bhat considers a general anaesthetic to be the most suitable form of pain relief for this surgery. Before you leave the practice you will be prescribed a course of pain relief to take at home in the weeks that follow, helping you manage any post-operative discomfort.
How soon after surgery can I wash?
You should be able to shower 24 hours after surgery, however, we ask that you avoid the jet (which should be gentle) being aimed directly at your chest. The wounds will take several weeks to fully heal, so we advise that you avoid rubbing the area and immersing it in water.
What results can I expect?
A flatter chest area is achieved immediately after surgery, which will be apparent after the swelling has subsided. Removing excess fat, glandular tissue and skin can also help to recontour the male breasts, producing a more masculine form.

I plucked up courage to have upper blepharaplasty with Waseem Bhat, I had two zoom consultations before going ahead with surgery.
I was very nervous but Waseem and Nicki made me feel completely at ease during surgery. Everything was explained to me and I felt in safe hands. I’ve just returned to the clinic for my sutures removing and even though it’s early days I can already see such an improvement I’m extremely pleased. It boosts your confidence and makes you feel so much happier with yourself.
